After delivery ……Dr P. then gave me 8 more misoprostol to encourage delivery of placenta. We mentioned multiple times and asked about placenta going to pathology because we wanted answers as to if the infection, they were now saying I had, was located in that area. At that time Dr P. left saying she would return to check if placenta delivered or if I felt pressure to call her. Around 3:45-4pm Dr P. come back into the room tried encouraging delivery of placenta some more and then suggested D&C. She said she did not believe it was going to come out by itself but that we had another hour before it was necessary if I wanted to wait. I told her today had been drug out long enough and that I was sure it would take that long to get everything ready, so for her to go ahead and plan for it and hopefully we could cancel it because it happened naturally first. I really didn’t want to have to a D&C if not necessary. Between 4 and 4:40pm (John says exact time was 4:38 I am very unsure) I was transported to OR for D&C, I was told it should take about 15 minutes. I was in and out of sleep during procedure but at one point heard Dr P. say something about not being able to get the top right piece of placenta removed. Dr P. then walked to the head of my bed told me everything went well, and then I was taken back to the room around 5:40pm. After arriving back to my room, the nurse told me that because of having a D&C the placenta was not in good shape for pathology and more than likely they wouldn’t get any useful information from it. She also let me know that there were a lot of clots left and may be some large in size so to expect them to be coming out. I never passed any clots at all my bleeding was light and constant. I was told I would be staying till the next morning 12/10 since I had an epidural, it was already getting late, and I should watch to make sure I get up and moving good. They also made that decision based on the fact that they could continue giving me around the clock antibiotics to make sure infection was gone. Sometime after 6pm our evening Nurse A. came in and noticed John was never given a pillow, blanket, or even offered a cot to sleep on and set off to find one. She came back at that time and said she was going to move our room to somewhere more comfortable. Around this same time Nurse M. (assistant nurse manager from 12/8) came into room and said they were going to move us somewhere more comfortable away from the nurse station where we had some privacy and didn’t have to hear all the loud talking and playing nurses and John would have a place to sleep. She then apologized for the night before said things were not handled correctly and she was sorry that she knew an apology changed nothing but she wanted us to know she knew it was not handled properly. She said they were extremely busy but she knew that wasn’t an excuse. Then helped us get moved and comfortable. We spent the night, was given antibiotics and discharged the next morning (12/10) with instructions to follow up with Ob/gyn within two weeks, call if excessive bleeding, fever, or pain, and use ibuprofen for discomfort.
